Our dear brother in the Lord, John McLaurin, passed away on Dec 13, 2016. What a wonderful example he was of living one’s life fully for the Lord. Here is his posted obit from the newspaper:
McLAURIN, John David 78, of Tampa (formerly South Bend, IN and Vienna, VA), passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 13, 2016.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Marlene; sons, John (Benita), Matthew (Courtney), Paul (Lisa), and Luke (Tricia); grandchildren, Jessica, John Mark, J. Corynn, Mattison, Tori, Ian, Violet, Colin, Leila, and Thad. Also surviving is his brother, Bob. John is predeceased by his brother, Jim and also by his and Marlene’s dear son, Mark.
A native of Asheville, NC John grew up in Michigan where he earned his undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of Michigan in Civil Engineering, and was a Doctoral Candidate in Forestry. He served proudly in the Korean Conflict with the US Army. John retired from US Government Senior Executive Service serving as a Cartographer for the Department of Interior. As Director of the Rocky Mountain Mapping Center, he presided over 400 employees.
John was a voracious reader, constantly learning and always willing to share his thoughts and wisdom. A quiet, loving, spiritual man and member of People of Praise, his family and friends will miss him greatly. Interment on a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
